Ethical Flaws of the Bible
The purpose of this article is to show how biblical values come into conflict with worldly values. Please keep in mind that if you wish to hold the bible as inerrant, than any passages I state can not be countered with passages that state otherwise because that would be a contradiction and therefore an error. If you do not hold that the bible is inerrant, I have no beef with you. In that case you have no one but yourself to blame for what you choose to take out of the bible.
You have a brain. You can figure out what is right and what is wrong. Make sure it's your side...
Slavery:
"Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he be slave or free.
And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him." -- Ephesians 6:24
This is the entire context. The previous and following sections were on different subjects.
Basically he's saying be nice and it will make the monstrious institution of slavery legitimate. Give the slave a kiss on the knee and it make it all be better. Remember, a slave owner could still be a nice person. It doesn't change the face that slavery is a monstrious institution. History validates this viewpoint.
Sexism:
"I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. But women will be saved through childbearing--if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety." -- 1 Timothy 2:9-15
As for context, the previous passages were talking about rules for men. The following passages are unrelated.
I would say something, but these passages speak for themselves. Let us be clear, if you are woman and you vote you are in direct violation of the bible!
Cults:
"All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all. There was no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need." -- Acts 4:32-37
The previous context was a prayer. The context after the quote talks about two people who gave money. One was faithful. Another was not and was struck dead by god for withholding money from the apostles.
You will notice a complete and total lack of individuality. They were living under complete communism. Furthermore, they gave the money to the group leader. Withholding money from the leader was a crime against god. Today, groups with those traits are broken up as cults.
The End Times:
"Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us." -- 1 John 2:18-19
Context wise, the previous passages were calls to not love the world. The next passages were a pep chat that sons of god rock.
So much for a singular antichrist. Here antichrists were anyone who leaves the fold. Their existance shows the world is about to end.
The world is still here.
Conclusion:
- Biblical values condone slavery.
- Biblical values condone sexism.
- Biblical values condone communistic cult practices.
- Biblical values say the antichrist came and destroyed the world two thousand years ago.
I rest my case.
