My Vision for the World

It is important that a person knows what he stands for. If you don't define it, then you're reduced to being reactionary. When you state your values, it makes it easy to plan out what must be done. When you state your values, it gives you a goal to work towards, even when it gets tough to turn your words into actions. I won't say that my plan is the best or can't be improved. However, I will say that I want it to happen. This is my vision for what the world could be.

"In the United States 2.4 percent of the work force is in agriculture." -- The World Today

Think about that, we can feed our entire country with only 2.4% of our population growing food. And this isn't even efficient food either. We eat extra-greasy McBurgers with lard fries. Raising cattle takes up a lot more money, land, and labor than raising more healthy foods. If we were to produce and eat more grains and vegetables, we'd need even less people working the land. In fact, I bet with the modern marvels of farming technology and soil enrichment that America alone could feed the entire world ten times over.

And yet, even with the great capacity for producing food, there are people starving this very instant in your community. At this moment, within two miles of your home there is a child that is going hungry. America is a wealthy and powerful nation. Is this the best we can do?

In my vision of the world, we bump up food production and feed everyone with no questions asked. In my world, every human has the right to eat. In my world you do not have the right to starve to death. To make a hungerless society a reality would require almost no additional effort! The food and production facilities are there. All we need to do is distribute the food to those going hungry. It's just a matter of making it happen!

"Carlson expects that construction will begin on the first prototype Park Inn later this year. The estimated construction cost for the new concept will be $38,000 to $42,000 per guestroom." -- Park Inn

That's for Los Angeles. My sister used to live within driving distance of Los Angeles and her one bedroom condo was roughly $400,000. Talk about a slight difference in price! Housing is the single biggest expense for most families. It can often suck up more than half of their disposable income! The demand for living space is rapidly outstripping the supply. And then there are homeless people who need shelter, 30% of which are veterans.

We can build homes cheaper. We can build homes much cheaper! This hotel proves it. The best thing is that a building only needs to be built once. Once you've got a building, as long as you properly maintain it it will last for a very long time! With a little initial investment, no one will ever need to go homeless again.

In my vision of the world, we come together and build far more homes than we need. Every person has the right to shelter. Every person does not have a right to freeze to death on the street. In my world no one has to go homeless.

"A single 100-megawatt power tower with 12 hours of storage needs only 1000 acres of otherwise non-productive land to supply enough electricity for 50,000 homes. Throughout the sunny Southwest, millions of acres are available with solar resources that could easily produce solar power at the scale of hydropower in the Northwest U. S." -- United States Department of Energy

That's just what the proof of concept test can do. As we begin use of this technology, it will become better and more efficient, just like every other technology we implement in a large scale manner. Think about it. We could have free, unlimited solar power that even works during the night. We could stop our dependance on fuels that pollute, both in mining and in burning. This would allow small, poor communities to produce their own local electricity without needing to depend on expensive fuel imports from far away sources. And it gets better!

Hydrogen is a new fuel that can run our cars. They've already got the engines designs completed for when oil gets too expensive. Electrolysis is a very simple process where you use electricity to get hydrogen from water. When you burn the hydrogen, the only exhaust is water! Hydrogen is a pollution free fuel! Since we've have free, unlimited electricity, we can also have free, unlimited, non-polluting fuel for our cars. And it could all be locally made too! We will have no more dependance on terrorist sponcoring nations. We will have no more dependance on companies like Enron to keep our cars and computers running. That would do a lot for national and economic security, don't you think?

In my vision of the world, everyone has cheap, renewable, non-polluting electricity and fuel. And the best part is that we already have the technology to do it! It's just a matter of putting it to use.

That is my world. It is a world where there is no hunger, no homelessness, and cheap, renewable, non-polluting fuel. Since everyone has the basics, there is no need to go to war for them. Since everyone has the basics, there will be no ghettos. Since everyone has the basics, poverty induced crime will largely cease. People will be free to focus on how they will start a new business or what new technology to invent, not how will they get the creditors off their back before going homeless. It is a society that uses automation and technology to ensure every person has room and board.

And the best part is we have the technology and the capacity to do everything listed here right now. We don't need to wait for some future technology, we already have everything we need. It's just a matter of getting together and getting to work. If you ask me, it sounds like one big step in the left direction.
